What is this place? A small private chat server Aaron runs for friends, built on the open-source Open OSCAR Server. It works with classic AIM-style chat programs.
Is this the real AIM or AOL? No. It is an independent hobby server and has nothing to do with AOL. AOL shut down its own AIM service in December 2017, so this one lives on its own.
I can't sign in! Check, in this order: (1) you set Host and Port under Setup > Sign On/Off > Connection before signing in (Host aim.getaudo.com, Port 5190); (2) SSL/encryption is off; (3) you typed the screen name and password you made on the Sign Up page (capital letters and spaces in screen names do not matter); (4) the server might simply be offline - tell Aaron.
How do I add a buddy? Once you are signed on, open your Buddy List, choose to add a buddy, and type your friend's screen name exactly as they made it here (capitals and spaces do not matter). The menu wording differs a little between AIM versions.
I forgot my password. There is no reset page. Ask Aaron.
Do I need an access code to sign up? Sign-up is invite-only during the beta. You need an access code from Aaron. Ask him for it, then type it in the Beta access code box on the Sign Up page.
What can my screen name be? 3 to 16 letters, digits and spaces, starting with a letter. Passwords are 4 to 16 characters.
Windows says AIM will not start. AIM 5.9.6089 is picky: follow every step in the Windows part of the Get the Software page (delete aimapi.dll, then set Windows XP compatibility mode on aim.exe).
My Mac will not open the app. Do the Terminal step in the Mac part of the Get the Software page. If macOS still complains, right-click the app and choose Open; on recent macOS versions you may instead need System Settings > Privacy & Security > Open Anyway.
What is this page's address, so I can send it to a friend? https://aim.getaudo.com/
Is my password safe? It is a hobby server, so treat it that way: use a password you do not use anywhere else, and never your real AOL or AIM one.
